What to expect month by month
Every Baby Develops Differently
The range for normal development is wide. A baby who smiles at 4 weeks and one who smiles at 7 weeks are both normal. A baby who crawls at 6 months and one who skips crawling entirely and walks at 12 months are both normal. The timeline is driven mostly by your baby's DNA, not by anything you do or do not do. Your job is to provide a safe, responsive environment and let your baby's natural timeline unfold. The milestones below are general guidelines, your baby will hit them in their own time.
When to Talk to Your Pediatrician
No response to sound by 2 months. No smiling by 3 months. Not reaching by 5 months. Not rolling by 6 months. Not sitting with support by 8 months. Not babbling by 9 months. Not pulling to stand by 12 months. Loss of skills at any age.
