Infant Feeding Support

How to help no matter what feeding choice your partner's made

Prepare Before Birth

Feeding support starts before the baby arrives. Find a lactation consultant in your community during your pregnancy, not after a problem starts. Lactation consultants are IBCLC-certified professionals who can help with latch, positioning, low supply, tongue-tie, and pain. Many offer prenatal consultations so you know who to call when you need help. Search at Lactation.org or ask your care provider or birth doula for a referral. Having a name and number ready before birth saves hours of stress in the first days.

Your Role in Feeding

You cannot breastfeed. But you can be the difference between breastfeeding succeeding and not. Breastfeeding support is shown to increase duration, not pumping equipment, not supplements, but another person actively helping.

Practical Ways to Help

If Your partner Is Not Breastfeeding

Formula feeding is a valid choice and requires no justification. Your job is the same: protect your partner from unsolicited opinions, handle logistics, and do half the night feeds.
